Indoor Climbing Centers

Climbing WallHotel fitness centers suck, and now that it’s starting to get colder outside jogging in the park doesn’t sound so great either. If you’re traveling with a colleague, you can go get your (on belay) belay on at an indoor climbing center. Climbing centers are cropping up all over the country. Most of the gyms offer memberships as well as day passes.

Day passes are around $15 - $20. That may or may not include gear rental, which may add an extra $10.00 to your total price.

The Most Famous Hill in Texas: The Grassy Knoll

Grassy KnollIf you haven’t had enough conspiracy action lately or you just love JFK the movie (or JFK the man), go see Dealey Plaza and the Grassy Knoll when you’re in Dallas, Texas.

It is a place of huge historical significance, so you might as well give it a few minutes. Besides, it’s free and therefore good. The buildings surrounding the plaza, along with most of the signs have been unchanged since the 1963 assassination. In a city where everything is shiny and new, it’s an interesting change of pace. If you’re really in to it, you can visit the Sixth Floor Museum in the Book Depository building.

Starwood Preferred Guest

Starwood Hotels, including Sheraton, Four Points, St. Regis, The Luxury Collection, Le Meridian, Loft, W, Westin and the new Element, fall under this “Program of the Year” for awards travel. With Starwood, you get 2 starpoints for every dollar spent at member hotels.

Starwood claims “No Blackouts or Availability Restrictions on Free Night Awards” but we’ve heard that before. I’ve not tried to book a rewards night with them, so I’m not sure. In addition, they claim to have more resort properties with whom you can book your rewards stay.

Travel Jobs: Teach English Abroad - Want to Travel but You Couldn’t Sell a Lifejacket to a Drowning Man…

LifejacketTeach English abroad. If you’re tired of the corporate wasteland and if the end is more important than the means (if being there is more important than getting there) maybe a TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) job is a good option for you. Let me guess, ever since you saw The Last Samurai you’ve been dying to live in Japan. Make it happen. There are loads of resources out there for those who want to give TEFL a shot.

What do you need to do? First, you have to have a university degree. The great thing is that it doesn’t matter what subject. Even people with useless Liberal Arts degrees (like me) can get in. Second, you’ll need TEFL certification. Find out the hows and whys in Confused About How to Choose a TEFL Course and Why to do a TEFL Course?

Take a Cab in Philly

I may only be the ripe ole’ age of 28 and from a small town in Arkansas, but I’m a traveler and a pretty adventurous girl. I’ve been around enough to know the ins and outs of traveling pretty much anywhere. I’m no rookie. I’ve been skydiving, white water rafting, I tried to ride a bull once, I even got robbed in Lima, but nothing has ever been scarier than riding the Philadelphia subway system.

Okay, getting robbed was but not by much.
