Automated Customs Declarations in Norway

Norway FlagNorway has the first ever automated customs declarations machines for customs declarations for passengers entering the country. So it’s an ACD (rather than an ATM). The new machines will allow incoming passengers to declare items brought from abroad, freeing customs offers to concentrate on more serious matters such as smuggling. Great allocation of resources.

You can declare an extra bottle of wine, then pay the duty by credit card and receive a receipt for the duty. Interesting.

I like it. It’s almost as cool as the automated lines in the grocery store. Although I’m sure there will be some repercussions from people who lose their jobs due to downsizing. Anyway, my Norwegian family will be proud.
