Avis Rent A Car Hybrid Vehicles

Avis Rent A Car System has added 500 Nissan Altima Hybrid vehicles to its U.S. fleet of rental cars, available at select locations. This addition gives customers a choice when renting a gas/electric hybrid vehicle, with the option of either the Toyota Prius, a compact hybrid vehicle, or the Nissan Altima, a full-size hybrid vehicle for those desiring more room. The Altima may be a much better choice for your business trips in which you need to drive clients to lunch or take a lot of gear. Even if you don’t give a crap about the environment, it may make you look more socially responsible.

The Altima Hybrid features a 2.5-liter, 4-cylinder engine, fuel economy estimated at 42 miles per gallon (city) / 36 miles per gallon (highway) and an “Advanced Technology Partial Zero Emission Vehicle” rating. Standard features include push-button start, cruise control, keyless entry, power door locks and windows and dual zone automatic temperature control.

The Altima Hybrids will be available at Avis locations throughout California. The Toyota Prius is available at locations in California,
Portland, Oregon, Seattle and Washington, D.C. The Toyota Prius hybrid will also be available in Boston, Chicago, Dallas, New York City and Philadelphia by the end of the year. Both choices are available with guaranteed reservations.

This is great news, but I wonder if these rentals will cost a lot more than the regular ones. Not that cost should be a deterrent — you can’t put a price on saving the planet.
