Spirit Airlines Baggage Allowance

Spirit AirlinesAs of Saturday, February 10, 2007, Spirit Airlines will allow customers only ONE free checked piece of luggage, weighing in at a paltry 50 lbs. The charge will be $10.00 for the second piece (which surely won’t break the bank) and $100.00 for the third (yikes).

The increase is being implemented to help keep Spirit’s fares competitive.

I personally don’t have a problem with it. The trips where I need more than one 50 pound bag are few and far between. Even if I’m backpacking someplace overseas, I can make it with one checked bag and one carry on. This just means you’ll have to plan what you wear rather than packing everything you own to “pack according to your mood” like my sister does.
