American Airlines AAdvantage
American Airlines offers one of the most comprehensive miles programs in the industry. In my experience, the number of miles earned on American can be a little skimpy. However, the carrier makes up with that lack of quantity by offering loads of partners, with whom you can earn miles as well. Rewards tickets begin at 25,000 miles, which is pretty standard with the major air carriers. Unlike some other programs, there is no minimum number of miles earned on a given flight. So if you’re flying short segments, you won’t see your balance rack up as quickly as you could. To make up for that shortcoming, there are often bonus miles offered on certain routes.

Other Ways to Earn
Dining for Miles: American Airlines participates in the Dining for Miles program, in which you can earn up to 10 miles per every dollar spent at member restaurants. I have always been a huge fan of this program, as I’ve earned lots and lots of miles AND it’s led me to some fantastic local establishments that I wouldn’t have found on my own. All you have to do is join up, register your credit card(s) and select American as your earning partner.
You can also earn miles by purchasing products online, internet or cellular service and even realty services.
You can use your miles to purchase airline tickets, as well as for vacation packages, magazines, donate miles to the Make a Wish Foundation, swap with other programs at Points.com. In addition, miles can be redeemed with the following partners: Alamo Car Rentals, Avis Rent A Car, Budget Rent A Car, Diners Club® Points, Hilton HHonors® Points, Intercontinental Hotel stays (including Intercontinental Hotels, Crowne Plaza, Staybridge Suites, Candlewood Suites, Holiday Inn and Holiday Inn Express), Marriott Certificates, National® Car Rentals, Priority Club Points and Samsonite.
