Continental Airlines Service to Athens
Continental Airlines just successfully launched its long-anticipated daily nonstop flights between its New York hub at Newark Liberty International Airport and Athens, Greece. The company maintains “The new service will provide a link from the financial and business center of the U.S. to the capital of Greece with connections from an extensive network of more than 230 cities throughout North, Central and South America, the Caribbean and beyond.”
Athens brings Continental up to 29 cities in its trans-Atlantic route network. I guess that means the addition of the Moombai??? flight this October will be the big 3-0.
The plane will be a Boeing 7670200, which allows for 25 passengers in BusinessFirst and 149 passengers in economy. So 174 lucky souls will make their way to Athens each day.
Whether you’re going for business or pleasure, a trip to Athens shouldn’t be missed. I spent my 25th birthday there. I woke up, visited the Acropolys, got on a train and ended the day at the beach. Actually, I ended the day at a restaurant BY the beach several hours (and glasses of wine later).
Flight CO104 departs Newark Liberty daily at 5:30 p.m., arriving in Athens at 10:20 a.m. the following morning. The return flight, CO105 departs Athens at 12:20 p.m. daily, arriving at Newark Liberty at 4:30 p.m. the same day. Flight times are approximately 9 hours 50 minutes eastbound and 11 hours 10 minutes westbound. In the winter months from November to March, flights will be reduced to four or five per week. Regular service will resume in April.
