AIM Location - Buddy Locator

Stalker

AIM has just released the newest innovation in stalker technology. With it’s latest plug-in, you can see the location of the people saved in your buddy list by tracking the nearest WiFi routers to triangulate the location of you and everyone on your buddy list, and then shows where they are on a map.

AIM partnered with Skyhook on this offering, who designed the plug-in. The purpose being to locate local businesses, not necessarily to see where the boy you have a crush on is online. The premise is that Wi-Fi triangulation is much more accurate than GPS. Supposedly, Systems using cell phone towers can only track your location to within one kilometer; the Wi-Fi triangulation can track a person to within 30 meters. So your stalker can be SUPER accurate. I can see some good uses, but I still think it’s creepy.
