TSA Approved Laptop Bags

The TSA recently started allowing airline passengers to pass through security without removing their laptops from their bags, provided the bags are of the “TSA approved” variety. This is the biggest news for the frequent flyer since the ban on liquids. I haven’t tested my luck in the security line just yet, but I’m thinking about giving the new rules a whorl in the next few days.
The thing is you can’t have anything in the bag besides the laptop. Now, with the airlines being a little less lenient with …

George Dubbya Eases Airport Congestion
Yesterday the Prez, yes I’m talking about George Dubbya, made a big promise. He said that he will begin a campaign to relieve airport traffic and help travelers who are forced to spend “endless hours sitting in an airplane on a runway.” NYC airports came under fire in particular, which is no surprise considering the lengthy delay times at the three.
George is really getting personally involved in this project. He directed his transportation secretary to meet with airlines, airports and consumer groups in the metropolitan area to come up …

American Airlines International Curbside Check in in Miami
American Airlines recently announced it is the only airline to offer the option of curbside check in for passengers traveling on international flights from Miami International Airport (MIA). In addition, customers can always check in at airport kiosks or online.
“International travel can be a stressful and tiring experience for many passengers,” said George Hazy, American Airlines Vice President of the Miami Hub. “We want to be able to provide our customers with all the convenient options we can in order to make their experience as pleasant as possible. From Miami we have more international …

Healthy Dining in the Minneapolis/St. Paul Airport
Airport dining is difficult. As a REALLY frequent traveler, I find it almost impossible to find healthy options in the airports around the country. You can only eat so many salads, but your options are limited beyond that. The Minneapolis/St. Paul airport is focusing on offering travelers more healthy dining options, which is GREAT! Especially for all of those airport patrons who are consistantly stranded by shady Northwest Airlines.
What can you get and where do you get it?
Blackened Warm Walleye Bistro Salad: Axel’s Bonfire. “This is a salad that stands apart, thanks to a …

Kalamazoo/Battle Creek Airpor Wi-Fi
The Kalamazoo/Battle Creek International Airport has re-launched its high-speed Wi-Fi network with a completely new service provided by Concourse Communications Group, LLC, a subsidiary of Boingo Wireless. Those are the same people who are offering all you iPhone owners free Wi-Fi this month.
Travelers can log in using an existing Wi-Fi account or purchase access from Boingo Wireless, “the world’s leading hotspot network aggregator,” for $7.95 a day. That is a total rip-off, much like ALL airport internet access, as you’re only going to use it for an hour or two on a layover. As a third option, …

Now, with the launch of the SFO lanes, members who fly between New York and San Francisco can use their Clear cards through security from coast to coast on the heavily-traveled route on United Airlines at JFK Terminal 7 and SFO Terminal 3.
The Clear lanes are open to all travelers out of SFO’s Terminal 1 from 4:30AM-12:00 midnight (B and …

Reservations for Airport Security Lines?!

The TSA is looking in to relieving security checkpoint delays by initiating a reservation system for security checks. The article mentions that the goal of the reservation system would be to encourage travelers to go through security at off-peak times. That sounds great, but I doubt travelers would want to show up at the airport even earlier than usual to avoid the high traffic times, which are the high traffic times because that is when the bulk of flights are departing.
The TSA is asking businesses for ideas on creating a reservation system …

Minneapolis/St. Paul International Airport Walking Program
The Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport has teamed with the American Heart Association to bring its nationwide Start! Walking program to the airport. Does that mean lugging your heavy bags around even more?! Pretty much. The route includes a 1.4-mile hike around MSP’s Lindbergh Terminal. The route is marked on overhead way-finding signs with circular green mileage markers for travelers to keep track of their progress. That’s cool. Walkers travel a square circuit that begins near Gate C1, they then proceed down the C concourse, cross the Concourse Skyway Connector, travel down Concourse G, and …
