New TSA Requirements for LARGE Electronics, Not ALL Electronics
The TSA has apparently instituted new security measures for LARGE electronic items being brought in to airports beginning yesterday. Yes, the very same day breast milk and lighters made their way back on to the accepted liquids list. I wrote about the lighters and milk from the TSA press release when it was issued several weeks ago, and saw no mention of the new electronics rule. So you can imagine my surprise when I read a post on Fly Away Cafe that ALL electronics will have to …

TSA Passenger Imaging Testing at Security Checkpoints

The TSA just announced they will soon begin testing millimeter wave imaging machines and backscatter machines at airport security checkpoints in Phoenix, Los Angeles, and New York-JFK. What does that mean to you? Just that you may have to walk through one more piece of funky machinery while you’re in the security line. These machines let the TSA screen passengers for prohibited items on their person “quickly, unobtrusively and without physical contact, detecting weapons, explosives and other metallic and non-metallic threat items concealed under layers of clothing.”
The airports will be testing …

New TSA Guidelines - Lighters and Breast Milk Will be Allowed
The TSA is toning things down a notch beginning August 4, 2007 (my birthday
) by allowing airline passengers to begin bringing lighters and breast milk in to our nation’s airports. “Torch” lighters, however, will remain banned items.
The TSA security officers currently confiscate 22,000 lighters every day from airport entrants across the country. Reversing the ban on lighters will let the offers focus more on finding explosives.
The Lighter Timeline Chart (directly from the TSA website) shows the Empire State Building versus five times number of lighters …

The Registered Traveler Programs are Working Together
The Registered Traveler programs are now run by two different private-sector service providers operating at six airports across the country. Those providers working together is key to the success of the program, allowing cards, regardless of the service provider from which they were issued, to be read and accepted by other providers’ operating at participating airports. This is accomplished through the Central Information Management System (CIMS) which was developed and is operated by the Security Biometric Clearing Network (SBCN) for the Transportation Security Clearinghouse (TSC).
“These events are the culmination of the tireless efforts of airports, private industry, and …
