TripAdvisor Business Travel Survey
TripAdvisor recently conducted and published the results of its annual business travel survey of more than 1,500 travelers worldwide. The shocking news? People like to travel for work. I’m not surprised as I wouldn’t trade my travel job for the world, but after reading SO many other bloggers who constantly whine about the hassles of being on the road, it’s nice to hear a little reinforcement.

Aeromexico will let you smuggle a bunch of people over the border for a reduced rate. But it’s only available for flights from Houston to Mexico City with Aeromexico’s five for four (or cinco por cuatro if you need to practice your espanol) discount.
AirTran Airways, is launching of the new A+ Rewards Wireless program with InPhonic, Inc. to offer A+ Rewards through wireless purchases. They have also announced plans to begin seasonal service between San Diego and Atlanta on May 24, 2007, as well as service between St. Louis and Atlanta on May 8, 2007….

Airline Industry News - Week Ending 01.20.07
American Airlines has relocated to Narita International Airport’s Terminal 2 and will begin operations on Jan. 17. The airline plans on the move improving convenience for travelers by housing American Airlines and four of its partner airlines in the same facility. A new Admirals Club will open in terminal 2 as well. Customers connecting between American and partner airlines will have minimum connection times of approximately 70 minutes, rather than the current 110 minutes.
Continental Airlines has announced it will launch daily nonstop flights between New York/Newark and Athens effective June 7,
2007, subject to government approval. …

Airline Industry News - Week Ending 12.23.06

American Airlines, along with its regional partner American Eagle, is adding new routes with daily nonstop service from Chicago-to-Shannon, Ireland beginning May 1, 2007. Daily nonstop service
between Chicago O’Hare and Birmingham, Alabama will begin April 10, 2007, as well as daily nonstop between O’Hare and Mobile, Alabama. Nonstop service between Miami International Airport and Cozumel International Airport will start March 2, 2007. On April 10, nonstop service from Austin, Texas and Seattle, Washington will begin. In addition, they have applied to the United States Department of Transportation for authorization to begin codeshare cooperation with Royal Jordanian Airlines beginning March 25. Finally, they will begin new food for purchase offerings on select flights.
Delta Air Lines has shot down US Airways in their proposed take over. They plan to emerge from bankruptcy in tact.
Emirates Airlines plans to launch mobile phone usage in its planes in January, making it the first airline to allow passengers to make cell phone calls on its flights.

Hilton Hotels plans to open 5,000 new rooms in China. The prospective areas are: Shanghai, Beijing, Tianjin, the Yangtze River delta (to facilitate driving the Yangtze River Dolphins completely in to extinction?! If they aren’t already) and Bohai Bay regions.
Hyatt has begun installation of new self-service kiosks at all Hyatt Place hotels.
Marcus Hotels and Resorts announced the opening of The Platinum Hotel and Spa, a luxury condominium hotel in Las Vegas. The Platinum offers one and two bedroom suites, dining at The Restaurant at Platinum, the STIR café and lounge and the WELL Spa. All 255 suites are furnished with living rooms, fully-stocked kitchens and private terraces. The rooms include 42-inch wall-mounted plasma HDTVs, electric fireplaces, Bose radios and whirlpool baths. Many suites are also equipped with washers and dryers. Guests have access to flexible and functional event and strategy rooms, a 24-hour business center, high-speed Internet access, a complimentary health and fitness studio and Wi-Fi capabilities throughout the property.

Air Jamaica will begin new daily non-stop service between New York and Barbados. I guess they got their plane out of hock.
AirTran upped its offer from $290 million to $345 million for all of Midwest Air Group’s outstanding shares. But Midwest management maintains they will continue to be a stand-alone carrier.
Alaska Airlines is expanding with new daily nonstop service beginning September 9, 2007 between Portland International Airport and Boston and Orlando. Maybe the BootsnAll boys will finally get a tan :).
American Airlines has kicked Expedia to the curb as far as first class, business class and international ticket sales go. Expedia Corporate Travel may be exempt from the break up. You can still get domestic coach. AAdvantage members earn up to 500 miles for each eligible First or Business class ticket purchased at AA.com or 250 bonus miles for coach class tickets. Between now and January 15 (act fast), you can earn 1,000 bonus miles for checking in online. AA has announced they have applied to the US Department of Transportation (DOT) for authorization to begin codeshare flights with Malev Hungarian Airlines beginning March 25, 2007. An agreement has been reached with AeroSvit, allowing new routes between the US and the Ukraine. This agreement will allow AeroSvit and American Airlines to transport passengers between the two countries using American Airlines domestic routes and AeroSvit’s transatlantic routes with connecting flights in New York.

Air China launched new service from Beijing to Sao Paulo, Brazil, via Madrid, Spain. This new route is world’s only direct, same-plane air service between China and Brazil. The new service offers two non-stop legs and a 90-minute lay-over in Madrid, making the journey quicker, easier, and more efficient than the previous 30 hour flight.
AirTran Holdings Inc. made a $290 million stock and cash bid for Midwest Air Group Inc. on Wednesday. No word yet on the outcome.
Air New Zealand will relaunch Pacific Premium Economy service on December 20, 2006, available international flights on 747s and 777s, including flights out of Los Angeles and San Francisco. Pacific Premium Economy will offer new amenities and enhanced services that will allow passengers to enjoy many benefits of Premier class. The new offerings include pre-takeoff drinks, printed menus and meals designed by Air New Zealand consultant chefs, and Business Premier snacks. Pacific Premium Economy customers will also receive hot towels, amenity kits, Living Nature lip balm, slippers (on selected flights), noise-canceling headsets and more.
American Airlines will be upgrading its domestic first class cabins with upgraded, motorized seats as well as new upholstery and a brighter cabin. Personal entertainment systems will allow travelers to browse recent newspapers and watch recorded television programs and first-run movies. Partnered with Marriott Vacation Club, American Airlines is offering travelers the prize of a lifetime. From now until Jan. 31, 2007, travelers can enter the AA.com Travel for Life Sweepstakes for the opportunity to win one grand prize of 1.5 million American Airlines AAdvantage(R) bonus miles, Marriott gift cards valued at $30,000, and a $30,000 MasterCard(R) gift card.
