National Geographic’s Inside China

Not From the BookChina is one of, if not the, business travel destinations of the decade. Westerners visiting the country should do their homework to understand the people and culture of the nation before attempting to do business with the Chinese people. I recently made my first trip to the country, and the cultural differences are as vast as the land itself. National Geographic has a new book, Inside China, showcasing some of the most amazing photographs to come out of the kingdom. What a great thing to get …

Budget Travel magazine is looking for a cover shot to celebrate its 10th anniversary. I know you business travelers have loads of time to snap shots while on the road, and this is just another opportunity to show off your skills. The magazine is looking for a photo taken by an ammature taken after 1998. Shouldn’t be too hard. Only five entries per person may be submitted, and the deadline is December 1, 2007.
I have no idea where my pre-98 photos would be. The winner will appear …

Bank of America Free Museum Admission
Bank of America offers FREE museum admission to various museums throughout the United States. Last year, the banking giant offered free admission in the month of May only. Now, the program, called the Museums on Us program, has been expanded to offer free admission the first weekend of every month. New locations have been added as well. If you’re traveling to one of the included cities, you can check out the goods gratis with your Bank of America card.
Bank of America members with an ATM, credit card or check card will have the opportunity to gain free admission to over 70 museums in 28 markets across the country during the first Saturday and Sunday of each month beginning in May 2008. This is a huge improvement over previous years, in which the promotion was limited to the month of May.
“Bank of America is committed to improving access to the arts and Museums on Us(TM) is a key component of that outreach,” said Rena M. DeSisto, Arts and Culture Executive, Bank of America. “We are thrilled to expand this program, both in scope and geography, so more individuals can experience art and culture at some of the finest museums in the country. Programs like this are important to how Bank of America creates new opportunities for our customers and communities.”
This year, museums in Atlanta, Baltimore, Charlotte, Chicago, Dallas/Ft. Worth, Detroit, Houston, Seattle, Silicon Valley and Phoenix will have the chance to participate in the Museums on Us for the first time.
To take the mystery out of the deal, here is a list of participating museums, arranged by city:

Thanksgiving Events in NYC 2007
If you can’t be home for Thanksgiving, I can’t think of a better place to be. New York City offers a whole host of opportunities for travelers to the city during the holiday season.
One of the first things that comes to mind when you think of Thanksgiving is the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. The big event kicks off at 9am at 77th Street and Central Park West, where the gi-normous balloons and floats line up alongside high school bands and cheerleaders. From there, the parade meanders …

Napa Valley Jazz & Blues Festival in Calistoga
Napa Valley will again play host to the annual Jazz & Blues Festival in Calistoga from November 2 to 4. Sounds will include Bay Area musicians like Herb Gibson, Larry Vuckovich and Alvon Johnson. I don’t know who any of those people are, but they sound jazzy.
Day one tickets are $15 and include a commemorative wine glass and four drink tickets. $15 is a steal for four drinks in my book! Festival goes will have the opportunity to listen, shop and enjoy local wines from 11 a.m. to …

NYC & Company, New York’s official marketing and tourism organization, recently aired a segment on activities for the solo traveler on WNBC’s News 4 You. As most business travelers are by their lonesome, I figured I would pass the tips along to you.
“Traveling alone should not prevent anyone from taking in and enjoying New York City,” said Townsend. “With millions of people and thousands of activities, one can do just about anything on their own — from art exhibitions to walking tours to film screenings and more.”
