Avis Mobile Car Rental

Avis Rent A Car System is the latest transportation company to add a new online booking tool to its options. The company would like to “make business travel more productive, and leisure travel more convenient.” And if it makes business travel easier, then I’m a fan. Customers can now make, check or change reservations online with any web enabled portable device.

“Portable digital assistants, telephones, Blackberries and other small communications technologies offer Internet connections that enable consumers to access information and services almost anywhere,” said John Peebles, vice president of online marketing for Avis Budget Group, parent of Avis. “By enabling Avis customers to make or change their Avis reservation from their handheld device, we’re making it easier for them to save time and achieve their business travel objectives.”

There is no .mobi to deal with, just use the standard avis.com site to access from your device of chice. The server will automatically recognize requests from handhelds, and will respond with the compressed information fields and text.

The service provides the same functions available at Avis.com, including making new reservations, changing existing reservations, facilitating Avis Preferred and Avis First reservations, as well as requesting special equipment like the Avis Where2 GPS navigation system or Avis’ various electronic toll collection solutions.

I didn’t know that you can get navigation in rental cars! That is awesome! I usually bring my TomTom ONE XL with me - I love having a portable GPS. But for people that don’t have one, this is really a great thing!!

Great, huh? I take my own as well, but I’m a HUGE fan of the toll programs. That will save me a bundle in tickets!
