NYC for Solo Travelers

Big Onion Walking Tours NYC & Company, New York’s official marketing and tourism organization, recently aired a segment on activities for the solo traveler on WNBC’s News 4 You. As most business travelers are by their lonesome, I figured I would pass the tips along to you.

“Traveling alone should not prevent anyone from taking in and enjoying New York City,” said Townsend. “With millions of people and thousands of activities, one can do just about anything on their own — from art exhibitions to walking tours to film screenings and more.”

Here they are:

New York Film Festival: The festival returns to the Lincoln Center this year for its 45th anniversary. From September 28 to October 14, cinema buffs will be treated to 28 film premieres including The Darjeeling Limited, a new film from acclaimed writer/director Wes Anderson starring Adrien Brody, Owen Wilson and Jason Schwartzman.

Paper: Through December 31, the Fisher Landau Center for Art will showcase Paper, a two-floor exhibition with more than 200 works by artists like Kara Walker, Agnes Martin and more.

Big Onion Walking Tours: Big Onion has been offering tours throughout NYC since 1991. The company offers 30 tours around the five boroughs including “Brooklyn Bridge & Brooklyn Heights,” “Historic Harlem” and “The ‘Official’ Gangs of New York Tour.”

I actually live about 30 minutes from the city and I rarely make the trip alone. But that has more to do with the Path train than anything else. I might give a few of these a shot myself.
