Arkansas Greek Food Festival 2007

Greek FlagThe Arkansas Greek Food Festival takes place each spring. The 2007 festival will be held this weekend (May 18 - 20) at the usual location at the Greek Orthodox Church in West Little Rock. I, unfortunately, won’t make it as I have to return to New Jersey tomorrow morning for work. Bummer. Here are the details:

Russian Nesting DollsThe festival celebrates all things Greek, with everything from Baklava and Souvlaki to Greek dance and lots of people saying “Om pa.” As far as I can tell, admission is FREE. If not, there will only be a very small charge. Things kick off at 11:00 am and wind up around 9:00 pm (6:00 pm on Sunday). The festival is pretty decent if you have a few hours to kill in Little Rock. Parking is street side and not much fun, although this year I guess they have a trolley. There is a market where you can buy necessities such as those little Russian dolls that are doll within doll within doll and so forth. For the best Greek food in Central Arkansas, you’ll have to drive to the tiny suburb of Sherwood (my hometown) to the Athenian Grill. Mama cooks up the good stuff and makes the most amazing homemade Greek salad dressing this side of the Ionian Sea.
