Alaska Airlines Fall Sale

Alaska Airlines and the regional carrier Horizon Air are offering rock bottom prices on airfare this fall. These prices are so low, you’d think you’re flying AirTran. I must admit, this is refreshing news when the only thing I’ve heard in the media in recent months about the airlines is the astronomical airfare hikes.

The sale offers one-way fares starting as low as $49 for Horizon Air flights in Washington and Oregon and $69 for Alaska Airlines flights to the San Francisco Bay Area. To get in on the action, you have to purchase your ticket before October 23 for travel between October 24 and December 17, 2008.

“Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air cover the West with more flights to more destinations on the West Coast than any other airline,” said Steve Jarvis, Alaska Airlines’ vice president of marketing, sales and customer experience. “We’re hoping that customers will take advantage of these low fares and our great schedules to plan a fall getaway before the holidays.”

Sample one-way fares are: $49 between Portland and Redmond/Bend, Ore.; $69 between Seattle and San Francisco; $99 between Portland and Phoenix; $109 between Seattle and Orange County, Calif.; $129 between Seattle and Palm Springs, Calif.; and $130 between Seattle and Minneapolis/St. Paul.
(The carrier begins twice-daily, nonstop service between Seattle and the Twin Cities on Oct. 26.)

You can get the complete list of sale fares available at alaskaair.com or horizonair.com or by calling (800) ALASKAAIR.

The Fine Print (from the press release): Seats are limited and subject to availability. Tickets must be purchased by Oct. 23, 2008. Travel must be completed between Oct. 24, 2008, and Dec. 17, 2008. Tickets must be purchased within 24 hours of making your reservation and at least 14 days prior to your departure. Blackout dates are Nov. 26 and 30, 2008. Passengers may check one bag for
free. A second bag may be checked for $25. A fee of $100 will be assessed for each additional checked bag. Additional fees apply to overweight or oversized checked baggage. These fares may be purchased at alaskaair.com or horizonair.com provided the itinerary is no more than eight segments long (a ground segment constitutes one leg of your itinerary). These fares are non-refundable. These fares are only available on Alaska Airlines and/or Horizon Air. Changes made through an Alaska Airlines/Horizon Air Reservation Call Center or Airport Ticket Counter incur a $100 (USD) per person change fee plus applicable fees and any difference in fare. Changes made at alaskaair.com incur a $75 (USD) per person change fee plus applicable fees and any difference in fare.

You will be responsible for additional taxes and fees, including Airport Passenger Facility Charges of up to $9 (amount depends on itinerary), Federal Segment Tax of $3.50 per segment (takeoff and landing), and the U.S. Security Fee of $2.50 per segment.
