Arkansas Travelers Dickey-Stephens Park

Travs LogoThe die hard fans of the Arkansas Travelers have barely dried the tears from their eyes after a sad farewell to the historic Ray Winder Field (doh – I originally put War Memorial. I know better and I’m really embarrassed at how many people read this post before I made the change) at the end of last season. But we can now let go of the past (and hope it doesn’t become an elephant preserve – get real!) and look forward to enjoying the new Dickey-Stephens Park. I was home yesterday and drove past the field and it is one good looking ballpark. The view from the stands will be of the downtown Little Rock skyline, which beats the previous view of…nothing much.

The inaugural game will be held on April 12, 2007. Tickets go on sale April 2nd. The ticket office opens at 10 a.m. April 12, 2007 and the gates will open at 5 p.m. The first few thousand people get a commemorative baseball and I intend to be one of them.

I would LOVE to encourage all business travelers to the area to check out a game when you’re in town. But leave this one for the locals. I think it will be hard to get tickets and the ones that are available should be left to the people who have been going to games for years. Any time but April 12, go have a look see. I’ve mentioned time and time again that I think a baseball game is a great way to spend an evening in a random city. There are a few restaurants and bars you can walk to from the stadium, or take the trolley across the river to the River Market district.

I plan on being there for the first game and I’ll update this post with some photos and more information when I do…
