* Review: I spent a few hours at Down the Hatch last night enjoying the $1.00 beer. Yes, that was $1.00 beer in NYC. Every Tuesday. The beer seemed a little weak, or maybe I’m even more of a drunk than I realize. But I was an instant fan of the bar. There were a few games in the back and STELLAR specials everyday. Like the Wednesday Wheel of Drinks. It’s like Wheel of Fortune for Booze and it included $3.00 Yeager Bombs (or something like that). Or the weekend specials that involve 3 pitchers of beer and food. Okay, it’s cheap – you get that. It was a good scene as well with a mixed group and scores of good looking men. The bathroom was a little scary, but who cares about that once you’ve broken the seal?

Down the Hatch is a basement level bar amid the other bars, palm readers and sex shops of the area. It’s a close walk to the subway or the Path train. It’s cheap and loud and crowded and there are sparkely Christmas lights on the ceiling. What more could you ask for in a bar?
