Broadway in Chicago

Oriental TheaterWinter is the only reason I haven’t moved to Chicago. I love the city and the people, but I just can’t deal with the cold. However, there are some GREAT entertainment option in the windy city that barely require you to set foot in the blustery weather. Broadway in Chicago is one of the many great option for business travelers in Chi-Town.

My first Broadway in Chicago experience was this past winter. I saw Wicked the Musical at the Oriental Theater. Awesome play (especially when Elphaba started flying), awesome theater (the Oriental is breathtaking). What are your other options for theater destinations? There’s the LaSalle Bank (Shubert) Theater, Cadillac Palace, Drury Lane and the Auditorium Theater. Unfortunately, the website doesn’t give directions for public transportation, with the exception of Drury Lane. Visit the CTA website to find the correct L stop and save yourself the pricey parking fees and be a little more ecologically responsible than driving yourself.

Why would I say Broadway in Chicago is good for business travelers? The plays normally have evening shows, so they don’t conflict with work. Also, you’re involved in watching the play so it isn’t a big deal that you’re alone. Finally, scoring tickets for a new big production, like The Color Purple, can be a great way to impress theater-happy clients. I would overlook the fact that this play is brought to you by Oprah, and give it a shot anyway. Tickets go on sale on October 20, and I bet they’ll go like wildfire.
