Hotel SportsNetSM Offers Pay-Per-Day Sports in Your Hotel Room

MarketingI recently featured a new service called Hotel SportsNetSM by LodgeNet Entertainment Corporation that allows hotel patrons to purchase one day service of NFL Sunday Ticket, NBA League Pass, NHL Center Ice, ESPN GamePlan, ESPN Full Court and College Sports TV. As a sports fan and frequent traveler, I thought this was a GREAT idea. But the problem with the service is that the company wont tell you where to find it. After posting the feature, I contacted the company to determine which hotels would offer the service. My correspondence with the company was as follows:

To: comments@lodgenet.com
Subject: Hotel SportsNet

Is it possible to get a list of properties (or brands) of hotels who offer your Hotel SportsNet service? Thanks so much for your help!

Ms. Thompson, I apologize it has taken to the end of the week to get back to you.

It is our policy to not distribute a list of our hotels but if you have a specific city or two I’ll be glad to give you a list of our SportsNet hotels.

LodgeNet is just releasing this exciting service so at present we are only in about 200 hotels across the US.

Mark,

Thank you so much for your response. I was looking for a list to include on my website, www.businesstravellogue.com. My site is geared toward business travelers who spend a great deal of time in hotels in various parts of the country and abroad.

I wanted to be able to give my readers a list of properties where they could enjoy this service, as I know many people would love the chance to watch their favorite sports away from home. I believe some sports fans would choose a property including your service over competition in the area if they had the information.

It seems it would be difficult to market a product without providing a list to potential consumers. Without a list of properties (or even hotel brands in general) who use your service, it’s a craps-shoot for consumers whether or not the service will be available.

Thank you again for your time.

Mark didn’t bother responding to my last e-mail. So if you’re interested in the Hotel SportsNetSM package, I guess your options are to either (a) cross your fingers and hope it’s available at your hotel of choice or (b) write the company at comments@lodgenet.com to request locations for the city in which you are interested. I’ve got to warn you, if you choose option (b), be sure to e-mail them at least a week in advance. They have some trouble following up with comments.
