Kayak Announces New iPhone App

kayakFor business travelers who love gadgets (and what business traveler doesn’t like gadgets?), there are tools popping up all the time to help make your life easier. Not all of them work for everyone, and not all of them work well period – but when they do work, it’s nice when they can save you both time and money.

So when online travel booking site Kayak announced that they’ve made a new app for the iPhone, it was something I thought was worth mentioning.

The brilliance of Kayak‘s model is that they’ll search through thousands of travel sites for you after you’ve plugged in your travel needs, which definitely saves you the time of browsing on even a handful of sites yourself. Not only that, it has the potential to save you beaucoup bucks, too, as they could find you a deal on a flight or hotel room from a site you didn’t even know about and wouldn’t have looked at yourself anyway.

Kayak’s iPhone app does what Kayak’s online service does, it just does it from the palm of your hand. Chances are good that you’ve made your travel arrangements in advance, but if a flight gets delayed or canceled or you need to catch an earlier plane, you can have Kayak look for a new flight for you right from your iPhone. If that hotel room you booked turns out to be in a dodgy neighborhood or too far away from your client’s office, you can find another room in a better location using Kayak’s iPhone app, too.

The folks at Kayak have just built their iPhone app, so they’re bound to keep making adjustments and improvements to it, but if you’re already a fan of the Kayak website (and if you’re not, you should be) then there’s every reason you’ll want to tryout Kayak for the iPhone. And by the way, it’s free.

Oh, and if you’re like me and you’ve got a BlackBerry instead of an iPhone, there’s a Kayak app for the BlackBerry, too.
