New York City Waterfalls Bike Tours

These days, Niagra Falls aren’t the only falls in the great state of New York. New York City is now the proud home to four waterfalls, courtesy of the city’s public art fund. Found throughout the city, the waterfalls range from 90 to 120 feet tall. The waterfall art installation will run from June 26 through October 13, 2008. Bike and Roll, a tour company located in the city, is now offering a biking tour for those of you who want to have a look at the new falls.

From the press release:

There is no better way to see these waterfalls than from the seat of a bike. Our entertaining guides will lead you to the best vantage points with the most spectacular views through parts of Manhattan and Brooklyn.

Tours

There are two tours to choose from each day. The first departs at 3:00 PM and the second (the sunset tour) departs at 6:30 PM when the waterfalls are lit. Tours depart from the South Street Seaport (near the Fulton subway stop) and take around two and a half hours. The cost is $40 per person (includes bike and helmet). It is not recommended for children 12 and under, which is nice for the grown ups. Advanced reservations are recommended and can be made by calling (212) 260-0400.

If you prefer to do-it-yourself, you may do so by renting a bike at any of Bike and Roll NYC’s convenient Manhattan locations, including Pier 84 in Hudson River Park @ 43rd Street and 12th Ave, the South Street Seaport or Pier A in Battery Park (this location opening soon). The NYC Waterfalls loop rental cost is $35 for 3-hours. Your rental includes bike, helmet, lock, handlebar bag and map, and the route begins and ends at the South Street Seaport.

You know what would make this review even better? If the fine folks at Bike and Roll would comp me a tour…say on the 3rd…so I could provide a first hand account.
