Nutrition Information for Your Cellphone: Calorie Counter +

Calorie Counter 1Nutrition information is important. Especially for business travelers who spend more time at restaurants, at the mercy of the chef, than in the kitchen. So I was SUPER excited when Melissa recently posted about the Calorie Counter + and I HAD to investigate. Finally a way to see if that Ahi Tuna with Citrus Fire Glaze would be worth the extra hours in the fitness center.

Unfortunately, I don’t think this product is as much help as it may seem for users in the US. To begin with, the phones supported with this service are pretty limited. I, having a RAZR, couldn’t download the product to test it out, as it is not on the list:

LG Chocolate, U8120, U8130
Motorola V300, V400, V500, V600, V80, V3, V975, V980, ROKR, PEBL, V3X
Nokia 2650, 2855, 3100, 3105, 3108, 3120, 3125, 3152, 3155, 3200, 3205, 3220, 3230, 3250, 3300, 3586, 3587, 3595, 3600, 3620, 3650, 3660, 5100, 5140, 6010, 6012, 6015, 6020, 6021, 6030, 6060, 6100, 6101, 6102, 6108, 6111, 6152, 6155, 6165, 6170, 6200, 6220, 6225, 6230, 6235, 6255, 6260, 6280, 6585, 6600, 6610, 6620, 6630, 6650, 6651, 6670, 6680, 6681, 6682, 6800, 6810 ,6820, 6822, 7200, 7210, 7250, 7260, 7270, 7360, 7600, 7610, 7650, 3585i, 3586i, 3587i, 5140i, 6015i, 6230i, 6235i, 6610i, 7250i, 8910i, N-Gage, N-GageQD, N70
Samsung D500, D600, E720, E900, Z140, Z500
Sony Ericsson D750, J300, J500, K300, K500, K600, K700, K750, T610, T630, V600, W550, W800, Z600, Z1010
Sharp GX20, GX25, GX30

That may or may not be because the service originates in the UK. The RAZR is a dime a dozen here, but that may not be the case across the pond. I’m not sure what the reason is, but I can’t download the product.

Calorie CounterAlso, the nutrition information given is helpful, but not really for a restaurant environment. You may order cod filets, for which you can get the DL, you can’t be sure about the calorie content of the marinade. Most restaurants should be able to give you nutrition information for anything on the menu. I love this idea, it would just be more useful if it provided maybe nutrition information for items at major chains.

The Calorie Counter will set you back £3 if you want to give it a try. Remember, that’s roughly $6 right now.
