Pensacola Beach Bushwacker Festival – August 3 – 4, 2007

BushwackerEach year, Pensacola Beach throws a Bushwacker Festival in honor of the FABULOUS drink. Just to get your tastebuds moving, here is a Bushwacker recipe from RecipeCzar (who gave me a FANTASTIC recipe for Mojito Jello Shots last summer):

1/2 oz. rum (Cruzan is the best, but use whatever brand you have)
1/2 oz. vodka (any brand)
1/2 oz. Bailey’s Irish Cream (or a similar off-brand name)
1/2 oz. Kahlua (or a coffee flavored off-brand name)
1/2 oz. amaretto liqueur (any brand)
1/2 oz. chococo chocolate-flavored liqueur
1/2 oz. Frangelico (I recommend it) (optional) [That’s the one with the bottle that looks like Aunt Jemima – HEHE!]
1/2 oz. creme de coconut (a MUST – “Coco Lopez” is best)
1 cup crushed ice (more or less to make the proper consistency)
3 dashes of grated nutmeg
1 tablespoon whipped cream
1 maraschino cherry

  1. Put everything, except nutmeg, whipped cream and cherries in a blender and use enough ice that when blended will be the consistency of a milkshake.
  2. Blend, pour into glasses, and top with whipped cream, a cherry, and a couple dashes of grated nutmeg.
  3. Enjoy!

Now, I can’t promise that is the same recipe for the Bushwackers I’ve sipped so many, many times at the beach bars, but it sounds about right (maybe more heavy on the booze) except every place I’ve been gives you a nice pour of chocolate sauce on the top. But you can obviously see what kind of wonderful, ice-creamy, drunken festival this will be.

I’m not sure about their Bushwacker making skills, but while you’re in town McGuire’s is a GREAT place to eat a few minutes from the beach.

This year, the festival is being held on my birthday!! The festivities will take place on August 3 – 4, 2007. For future dates, check the official Pensacola Beach Events Calendar.
