The owner receives one mile for each dollar spent on general purchases. If you use your card at participating retailers and merchants – which obviously include Delta Air Lines – you get two miles for each dollar spent. On the first purchase, the owner is awarded 20,000 bonus miles. Out of that bonus, 5,000 miles can be used towards upgrade opportunities, mileage bonus and many more.

The miles don’t expire as long as you travel with Delta Air Lines at least once every two years and there is no yearly limit. Each year the owner is entitled to get a free companion ticket.

The annual fee is $150 and it might appear to be rather high but if you are qualified American Express Cardmember the annual fee is reduced to $95. The APR is 13.24% and the balance transfer APR is 3.90% during the first 12 months. The fee for cash advances is 3% of each transaction but no less than $5.00.

In addition, owners also receive the benefits which come with all American Express cards: travel accident insurance, auto rental insurance and other protection services.

If you use Delta Air Lines often and spend money at participating merchants, Platinum Delta SkyMiles® Credit Card from American Express is quite attractive although the card has a high annual fee.
