Potomac Water Taxi Between Alexandria and the National Harbor

Crossing the PatomacPotomac Riverboat Company is a new water taxi service will link Old Town Alexandria with National Harbor, the new waterfront development under construction just south of the Wilson Bridge in Prince George’s County. The company will begin daily service between the two riverside destinations in April 2008.

Two newly-commissioned boats with a 99 passenger capacity each will run initially on the half-hour between 10:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m., providing 50 trips each way daily between the Alexandria City Marina and the Commercial North Pier at National Harbor. The crossing is expected to take approximately 20 minutes. Round-trip tickets are anticipated to be in the $12 range, which seems like a decent price. The Potomac Riverboat Company is not new to the area. The company has been navigating the waters of the Potomac for more than 30 years, providing water taxi service, cruises and charters between DC, Alexandria, Georgetown and Mount Vernon.

In addition to a new pier that will be constructed in Old Town, the maritime construction at National Harbor will be considerable and include two 700-ft. piers designed to accommodate large concerts, dinner cruises, light shows and other events, a marina and waterside boulevards with outdoor eateries and other attractions. Sounds SUPER fun! National Harbor is a 300-acre, mixed-use development that will include five hotels, thousands of residential units, tree-lined promenades with shops and offices, a marina and more. The development will command a mile and a quarter of the Potomac.
