Skype for iPhone

Finally two of my favorite things are coming together – Skype and the iPhone. Skype has finally created an application for the iPhone that lets you use all of your beloved Skype features directly on your phone. And it’s FREE, which is of-course one of the things we love about Skype.

What can you do? Everything!

  • Make free Skype-to-Skype calls from any WiFi hotspot.
  • Make cheap calls to cell phones and landlines around the globe, either by subscription or pay-as-you-go.
  • Send and receive free IMs from any mobile internet connection (via 3G, GPRS or Edge) or WiFi.

What does this mean for you? Well, as I mentioned long ago this type of application provides you with a work around for making calls when you’re out of your coverage area. AT&T (for those of us in the U.S.) is great, but their international charges are really out of control. I wrote an article some time ago about using TruPhone and YouMail to avoid the hefty phone bills when traveling abroad. I’ve used this little system quite a lot while traveling for the last three months and saved a mint. But the TruPhone call quality isn’t always spectacular. The Skype app gives you another way to take care of the problem.
