The Foggy Bridge Wine Cruises in San Francisco, California

Foggy Bridge Wine CruiseFoggy Bridge Wine Cruises will set sail on September 7, 2007. The cruises will be aboard USS Potomac, the former yacht of President Roosevelt, and will feature wines from many of the best grape-growing regions throughout California. Mmmm. Food and wine while cruising around the bay.

Profits from the cruise will be donated to The Association for the Preservation of the Presidential Yacht Potomac. I’m not sure what that is, but it sure sounds important. There will be 3 regularly scheduled cruises around the San Francisco bay on the weekends.

In the first of a series of cruises, fine wines from the Napa, Sonoma, Mendocino, and Livermore valleys and the Central Coast will be showcased. The wines will be served with foods that accentuate the flavor pairings. The initial cruise schedule is for Friday and Saturday evenings and Sunday brunches, which will be held on most weekends between September 7 and November 25. Additional cruises will be scheduled as the demand increases.

The goal of the cruise (besides to get a full belly and some great wine) is to learn which wines from each region will best complement different foods. Guests will be provided with written information describing key characteristics of wines from the different regions and the types of food to pair them with. There will be three pairing stations on board, serving ten dishes created by Left Bank.

The cruises will depart from Pier E at the San Francisco Ferry Building. Tickets are available online at www.foggybridgewinecruise.com. Sounds like a great way to spend a day in San Francisco, provided the weather cooperates.
