The Newark Supertug

Supertug

The Newark Supertug

I just flew in from Little Rock (and boy are my arms tired). Kidding. After a 5 hour delay due to the weather problems in the northeast (which actually worked out nicely for me as the flight was originally scheduled for 7:10 am and I was busy sleeping off a hangover), we left for Newark. We had a few additional delays on the ground, but departed at a [somewhat] reasonable time.

Upon arriving in New Jersey, we hit a snowy patch while taxing to the gate and of course we got stuck. We were told it would be just a few minutes for the “supertug” to come and pull us to safety. Being from the south, I imagine some jacked up truck with big tires and a towing strap. Those are the people who go out in the rare Arkansas snowstorms to pull people out of ditches, anyway. When our saviors arrived, I was quite surprised. The supertug turned out to be three Port Authority guys in an SUV with snow shovels. Pretty high tech. That was particularly amusing to me, as I’m pretty certain I’ve never seen a snow shovel in real life. The shoveling was fruitless, so they finally got someone to come pull us out of the snow and deposit us safely at the gate.

So, post blizzard, I hope you’re all back where you want need to be for the work week. Take a deep breath, there is nothing anyone can do about weather issues… At least you can get some good stories out of the deal.
