Virgin America Main Cabin Select Service

Virgin America, the California-based airline that is on a mission to make flying good again North American arm of Sir Richard Branson’s Virgin empire, is offering passengers a spanking new service as of today called “Main Cabin Select.” Main Cabin Select isn’t First Class, it isn’t Steerage, it’s its own new entity aboard Virgin America flights.

Main Cabin Select is an awful lot like premium Coach seating offered by other airlines. For a small premium, passengers receive a little extra legroom, 38 inches of seat pitch in the exit row and at the bulkhead, as well as other fancy perks I’ll tell you about below.

“MCS is for the business or leisure traveler who wants a more streamlined boarding process, a spacious, custom-designed leather seat, an unlimited all-access pass to the most extensive in-flight entertainment library in the skies, and the ability to order cocktails, food and snacks right from their seatback video touch-screen or remote control,” added Cush. “In short, this is for the traveler who wants an upscale experience for far less than what they would pay for business class on someone else.”

Here’s what you get:

  • Complimentary food, cocktails, and beverages from the full in-flight menu, available via the airline’s unique touch-screen food ordering system.
  • Free reign of the airline’s Red entertainment system, which offers heaps of on-demand entertainment options.
  • 38″ of seat pitch.
  • A dedicated overhead bin space for luggage.

Wow, Virgin…you had me at “hello.”

Before you depart, you’ll enjoy:

  • Priority check-in at airports
  • Priority security screening
  • Priority aircraft boarding

Main Cabin Select will be available for purchase as of September 15, 2008, for flights in mid October to infinity.

Virgin America currently serves seven cities with flights from: San Francisco (SFO) to Los Angeles (LAX), SFO to New York (JFK), SFO to San Diego (SAN), SFO to Washington (IAD), SFO to Las Vegas (LAS), SFO to Seattle (SEA), LAX to JFK, LAX to IAD, LAX to SEA.
